Nûs-Kurdish Short Story (Nûs-KSS) Prize
Rules and Regulations
- The Nûs-Kurdish Short Story (Nûs-KSS) Prize is open to all Kurdish writers.
- Submissions are accepted in Kurdish (Sorani and Kurmanji dialects).
- There is no age limit to enter.
- The competition is open to all themes, but entries should showcase a connection to Kurdish culture or heritage in some way. This connection can be subtle or explicit.
- Submissions should be between 500 and 2,000 words.
- Entries must be original, unpublished work (not self-published online or in print).
- Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please inform us if your work is shortlisted elsewhere.
- Each author may submit only one entry.
- All entries must be submitted electronically through our online submission platform (contact info to be added when platform is ready).
- The manuscript should be double-spaced, with a 12-point font and one-inch margins.
- The manuscript should not include any identifying information on the first page (author name, contact details etc.). Include this information in a separate cover letter.
- Entries will be judged anonymously by a panel of established writers and Kurdish literary figures.
- The judges will be looking for originality and strong storytelling.
- The shortlisted entries will be considered for the final prize by the main judging panel.
- First Prize: $500 and publication on our website or inclusion in future panels or printed materials.
- Second Prize: $250 and publication on our website or inclusion in future panels or printed materials.
- Third Prize: $150 and publication on our website or inclusion in future panels or printed materials.
- Submission opens:1st June 2024
- Submission deadline: 31st August 2024
- Shortlist announcement: 1st November 2024
- Winner announcement: 1st December 2024 at the annual Nûs Festival
- The Nûs-Kurdish Short Story Prize reserves the right to publish shortlisted entries on its website or in printed materials.
- All entrants agree to be bound by these rules and regulations.
